VAR. Because apparently football wasn't stressful enough already.
A VAR review can confirm or overturn what happened on the pitch. How that affects your bet depends on the market you've backed.
What counts as a VAR review?
For Midnite's Total VAR Reviews market, a formal VAR review counts regardless of whether the original decision is overturned or upheld.
A VAR check where no formal review process is initiated doesn't count.
What happens when VAR overturns a goal?
For the VAR Goals Overturned market, a goal counts when it was initially given on the pitch and subsequently disallowed following a VAR review.
A goal already ruled out by the assistant referee for offside before the ball crosses the line doesn't count towards this market.
For other football markets, settlement is based on the result and events of the match using the most authoritative immediately available sources.
How does VAR affect red cards?
If a player receives a red card but that card is retracted – by VAR or otherwise – it doesn't count as a winning selection for the Player to be Sent Off market.
Once an event has finished, subsequent disciplinary decisions or appeals don't affect settlement under the General Sports Betting Rules.
How does VAR affect penalties?
For standard Penalty Awarded markets, what matters is whether the penalty is actually taken. If a penalty is awarded but then rescinded and isn't taken, it doesn't count as a winning selection.
The VAR Penalties Given market is more specific. It counts penalties awarded as a direct result of a VAR review.
A penalty originally awarded by the referee and simply confirmed by VAR doesn't count towards that particular market. Neither does a penalty that VAR overturns.
