⚽ World Cup Betting Rules & Settlement

Bets on World Cup matches follow Midnite's standard football rules. Here's what determines how your bet is settled.

⏱️ The 90-Minute Rule

Unless a market explicitly states otherwise, all football bets settle on the result at the end of 90 minutes plus any referee-added stoppage time. Extra time and penalty shootouts are not included.

📌 Example: If you bet on England to Win (Match Result) and the game ends 1-1 after 90 minutes but England win on penalties, your bet is settled as a Draw - not a win.

🔄 Extra Time & Penalty Shootouts

Markets that include extra time and penalties will be clearly labelled - for example, 'To Qualify' or 'To Lift the Trophy'. These settle on the final outcome of the tie, however it is decided.

📹 VAR Decisions

All bets are settled on the official result as confirmed by the match officials, including any decisions made by VAR. Bets are not re-settled or amended following post-match reviews or appeals.

🚨 Abandoned Matches

If a match is abandoned before 90 minutes are completed, bets are typically voided and stakes returned unless the result is made official. Check the relevant market page for the confirmed ruling.

⚽ Player & Goalscorer Markets

For player-specific bets (e.g. Anytime Goalscorer, First Goalscorer, Top Goalscorer), the following rules apply:

  • If your selected player doesn't start the match and doesn't come on as a substitute, the bet is settled as a loser - not voided.

  • Sub Hero may apply if your player starts but is substituted - see the Football Features article for details.

  • Penalty shootout goals do not count towards goalscorer or goals markets unless explicitly stated.

⚠️ For tournament outrights (e.g. Top Goalscorer), if your selected player doesn't participate in the tournament at all, the bet is settled as a loser - not voided.

❓ Common Questions

  • Does extra time count for my bet? Only if the market is labelled as including extra time - standard Match Result markets settle at 90 minutes.

  • What if VAR overturns a goal? The official result stands after all VAR decisions are confirmed - bets reflect the final official score.

  • When are bets settled? Usually within minutes of the final whistle, once the result is officially confirmed.

  • My player didn't play - is my bet voided? No. If a selected player doesn't feature in the match, the bet is settled as a loser.
